Fillers

Plainsman can supply clay fillers with a wide range of physical properties, colors, textures, particle sizes and shapes, plasticities and water permeabilities. Our process also enables us to make much coarser particle sizes with consistent particle size distributions than what are commonly available elsewhere.

Colors

We have light and dark cream, light and dark grey, light and dark brown, light and dark red, maroon, greenish and rust colored clay, silt and sand powders.

Particle size/shape

We have silty and sandy materials as well as fine and very fine powders. Particle shapes ranges from flat sub-micron particles to large angular and rounded ones.

Permeability

We have permeable powders that allow water to pass through very freely and, conversely, completely impermeable ones (that swell on contact with water and completely block further passage). When these impermeable powders are incorporated in suspensions they help hold onto the water to provide resistance to water loss and dry-out.

Plasticity

Plastic clay powders have very large total particle surface areas and have surface chemistries that have an affinity for water. This makes them excellent to act as both fillers and at the same time suspend non-dissolved particles (this suspension happens because the particles have charged surfaces and oppositely-charged edges that produces in a house-of-cards aqueous structure that envelopes the non-clay particles).
